How do I ship stock from China to Takealot in South Africa?

Last updated: · GoMate 果麦

Short answerTakealot sells marketplace stock from its own distribution centres (DCs) in Johannesburg and Cape Town, but it does not collect goods from China. Sellers ship to South Africa by air freight (faster, for light or urgent stock) or sea freight (cheaper per unit, for volume), clear customs, then deliver against Takealot purchase orders (POs). A local overseas warehouse holds the stock, labels it, and books deliveries to the DCs as POs come in.

Who this is for: Sellers outside South Africa, especially in China, who sell on Takealot and need a reliable way to get stock into Takealot DCs.

The chain, step by step

  1. Takealot raises a PO in the Seller Portal for the stock it wants in each DC.
  2. Freight from China – air for speed, sea for cost. Mixed strategies are common: air for new or fast-moving SKUs, sea for replenishment.
  3. Customs clearance in South Africa – duties and import VAT are paid at import. Regulated products may need certificates (see NRCS LOA).
  4. Overseas warehouse – stock is received, counted and stored in South Africa.
  5. Labelling and packing – Takealot barcodes on every unit, shipping labels on every carton.
  6. Booked delivery to the DC – each delivery needs a booking; unbooked POs are rejected at the door.
